Devonshire Avenue Baptist Church

Sunday at The Avenue

Sunday morning services at The Avenue

The morning service at The Avenue starts at 10.30 am.

We meet together to worship God and to listen to Bible-centred teaching which we hope will have practical relevance to what it means for us living in 21st century.

Coming into a church for the first time can be quite daunting and you may wonder what you can expect.......

WORSHIP

The songs we use in worship come from a variety of sources. Some of our services are led by guitar, but a lack of musicians means we also make use of music files and videos. The words of all the songs are displayed on a large screen using video projection so you don’t need to worry about finding the right place in the hymn book.

Prayers are generally extempore led by a worship leader at the church. Sometimes we invite the congregation to join in spoken responses to the prayers, and sometimes there are opportunities given for ‘open prayer’ when people in the congregation will have an opportunity to pray together in small groups.

We use the New International Version of the Bible, and there are copies available in the church hall. When Bible readings are done as part of our services the reader (often a member of the congregation) will usually give the page number to help everyone to follow the reading in the bibles provided.

At the conclusion of the service we gather in the adjoining hall for refreshments and the opportunity to talk with one another.
